Before the first bell of their final year, the Class of 2027 gathered at 5:45am on August 10th to watch the sunrise together and begin their senior year with a new tradition.
Seniors gathered at the Captain Shreve baseball field and Lee Hedges Stadium parking lot to eat breakfast, take pictures, spend time with friends, and watch the sunrise. For many, Senior Sunrise was a chance to celebrate their last first day together and create memories they will carry throughout the year.
“I had the best time at Senior Sunrise!! Being with all of my best friends for one more last first day was so heartwarming,” Madeline Witham said.
For Madeline the event was more than just watching the sunrise. It gave her and her friends a chance to appreciate how quickly their final year had arrived.
“It was nice seeing our whole class together and to experience the beginning of the end together,” Lillian Mckee said.
With seniors across the class gathering together, the morning created an opportunity for students to reconnect with friends and celebrate the start of an important year.
“It was such a fun start to our last year! I especially loved seeing everyone together,” Alyson Peyton said.
Students spent the morning taking pictures, eating breakfast, talking with friends, and enjoying their final first day of high school.
“I loved seeing everyone coming together as a class” Shiloh Chance said.
The tradition allowed the Class of 2027 to start their senior year surrounded by the people they have grown up with, while creating a memory that will remain part of their final year in the Swamp. As the sun rose, so did new memories for seniors to carry with them throughout their final year at Captain Shreve.
