So far, the 2025-26 Captain Shreve football season has been one to remember. Throughout the first five weeks, the Gator football team has managed to earn a 4-1 record with their only loss coming in week one against a tough Ouachita Parish team out of Monroe.
The football team has defeated the following schools: Huntington, Benton, Natchitoches Central, and Airline. Each of these wins were due to high offensive stats from their senior quarterback, running back, and wide-receivers. But looking forward to the remainder of the schedule, the next three weeks will be a serious challenge for the football team. They will face Evangel, Destrehan, and Parkway. Parkway High School is the only team in the district that is undefeated.
Although the Gators lost to each of these teams last year, they also have had several impressive accomplishments throughout the year, such as Jamarcea Plater becoming the all-time leading rusher in Captain Shreve history. The record currently sits at 3,063 yards.
Their quarterback, Jackson Gaskin, has also climbed into the record books by throwing for over 400 yards against Airline High School which is the third highest in Captain Shreve history.
Quarterback Jackson Gaskin, wide receiver Chris Hill, and outside linebacker Cortez Sharp, were asked about how the season has been progressing and their thoughts on what the team needs to do to continue to win. Each is very excited for the rest of the year.
Jackson Gaskin stated, “I think this team has unlimited potential and will be a very dangerous team to face for the rest of the year.”
He’s not the only one that feels this way.
Cortez Sharp said, “As long as our defense and offense can keep improving week to week then the Gators are going to be difficult to beat.”
Chris Hill also added, “We have the ability to beat anyone if we play as a team and individually do our jobs.”
These three players speak for the whole team when it comes to the confidence level and drive of the Gators. Each is ready to prove why they feel this way and lead the team to continued victory.
This 25-26 football team will have the opportunity to prove if they are the best in district over the next three weeks facing an undefeated Parkway team, a star-studded Evangel team, and a Southern Louisiana powerhouse in Destrehan.
Will this team have the ability to beat these teams despite being the underdog in almost every single local sports journal’s prediction? Time will tell if the leadership of the senior players and record breaking offensive players will be able to make Captain Shreve history.
