Captain Shreve High School celebrated its 2026 football signees on National Football Signing Day, recognizing the student-athletes who committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level after years of their dedication, growth, and perseverance for Captain Shreve. The ceremony honored seven of Captain Shreve’s finest football seniors who are advancing to college programs across the region. Coaches, families, and teammates gathered to recognize the athletes’ commitment and the effort required to reach the next level.
“It really takes a high level of commitment just to make it to college, even before you step on campus,” Co-Defensive Coordinator Darryl Lewis said.
Lewis emphasized that Signing Day represents more than athletic talent-it reflects discipline, character, and perseverance developed over their high school careers.
For many athletes, Signing Day marked the realization for a lifelong goal shaped by family, mentors, and their own personal determination.
“It feels great,” said Jamarcea Plater. “I’ve been working for this my whole life, wanting to make it to the next level and showcase my skills.”
Other signees mentioned the importance of guidance and support throughout the recruiting process.
“My coaches and my uncle helped me a lot with decisions and what questions to ask college coaches,” said Deanthony Thomas.
The recruitment process also required athletes to represent themselves confidently while pursuing opportunities.
“The hardest part was representing myself and giving colleges a strong first impression,” said Andre Campbell.
For some, the moment arrived faster than expected, bringing both excitement and gratitude.
“It feels crazy–this day came quick,” said Osborne Demery. “My parents have been guiding and supporting me through the whole process.”
Several signees also expressed excitement about growth beyond high school athletics.
“I’m ready for a more hands-on college experience,” said Shawn Devers. “My coaches are ready to help me succeed both on and off the field.”
Looking forward, Brandon Mays gave a small look inside at what he will be doing on the field in the fall.
“I will be a corner, contributing to the team by bringing the hard work and guarding the best receiver on the other team.”
The 2026 Captain Shreve football signees will continue their careers at colleges across the region:
- Andre Campbell – Millsaps College
- Shawn Devers – Ouachita Baptist University
- Osborne Demery – Louisiana Christian University
- Brandon Mays – East Texas Baptist University
- Jamarcea Plater – University of Tulsa
- Briggs Savage – Louisiana Christian University
- Deanthony Thomas – Louisiana Christian University
Signing Day served as both a celebration of achievement and a milestone marking the transition from high school athletics to collegiate competition.
