Kevin Wilson won Chef of the Swamp at the 2023 Taste of Shreve.

Every year, the  Z club service organization hosts a cooking competition called Taste of Shreve.  This year the competition began at approximately 11:00 am and ended at  1:00 pm. The competition consisted of 23 competitors. They were split into three different categories of dessert, gumbo, and chill. There were 11 competitors from Gumbo and six competitors from Chili and Dessert . Parents, teachers and friends gathered to try a small serving of each dish. To vote, tasters were given three tickets to put in a box, one from each category.

While eating, everyone was encouraged to participate in a silent auction for a chance to win themed gift baskets. Vendors were also present, selling various items such as paintings, bracelets, key chains, etc.

“The smiles and laughs as everyone enjoyed their food made this Cook Off an event to remember,” Kandice Wilson said.

Z Club presidents Ella Rossi and Isabella Hamilton announced the winners of the competition.

The winner of the dessert category was Allison Simon. The winner of the chili category was Cheryl Harrison. The winner of the gumbo category was Steve Singhoff. Henri Loridans won best presentation. The Merriest in the Swamp award for table decoration went to Dani and Christopher Long.

The overall winner for the Chef of the Swamp was Kevin Wilson with his bread pudding.

“I really loved meeting all the different people and watching them enjoy my food,” Wilson said.
