Some of the Swamp’s creative minds are producing films. Captain Shreve’s Film Studies students are competing in the Louisiana Film Prize festival. This competition is open to all middle and high schools, with each one getting five submissions to the film festival. The Film Prize Festival takes place during ArtBreak.

The film classes eventually edit their footage and pick the best compositions to submit.

“As classes we select the films with the most potential of being successful after we go through the entire film making process,” said Mr. Reynolds, the Film Studies teacher.

Every student has an opportunity to express their creativity through the projects. They feel like their films have artistry because so many different ideas and creative minds produce the film as a whole.

“The artistic expression of the video is the best part of it,” stated Rowdy Mazyzk.

The creation of the films shows an expression of the diverse students in The Swamp.

“You see every type of person in our classes… football, baseball, Z Club, French Club, TPT members… it’s really great to see them working together and figuring out how to get their ideas on the screen,” stated Mr. Reynolds.

The most important thing Film Studies teaches students is the ability to work together to communicate, write, film, and edit the videos.

Rowdy Mazyzk said, “The experience of working together to get something done and then being able to watch it and being like yeah we did. That is great!”

The Film Prize festival brings together a very unique group of people to produce diverse films on interesting topics.
