If you’re a football player at Shreve, chances are you already know Coach Guidry. But if not, listen up! Coach Guidry is one of the newest teachers and also the football coaching staff this year for the Gators. Before Shreve, he was at the school on Raspberry Lane and made the move to Shreve after being offered a position by Coach Wilburn to coach tight ends and running backs.
When asked what drew him to Shreve, Coach Guidry said “the great coaching staff, strong culture of hard work, and talented athletes made the decision easy.”
This is also his 29th year teaching. He will be teaching Algebra I to freshmen.
An interesting fact about Coach Guidry is his son attends Byrd High School and is one of their top golfers. When asked about the rivalry between Byrd and Shreve, Coach Guidry laughed and said, “There’s always a little bit of trash talk between us, but it’s all love in the end.”
Coach Guidry is excited about the upcoming football season. He sees “a glimpse of excellence” in the team and is excited to see what the team can become. Among the games he’s most looking forward to are the match-up against Parkway, where his brother coaches, and of course playing Byrd.
Other coaches have said that Coach Guidry helps the team with his energy and dedication. He has helped push players to be their best both mentally and physically.
Also, players have noticed how he has helped the team. Tight ends Keith Bolton and Michael Wyss shared how Coach Guidry has improved their play.
Wyss said, “Coach G is a great, talkative person. He’s helped me improve as a tight end and stay mentally focused on long snapping. He’s great at spotting the little things and helping us fix them so we don’t repeat mistakes on Friday nights.”
Bolton said, “Coach G is my favorite coach. He’s helped me improve my skills a lot and does more than just coach tight ends. He’s one of the offense’s biggest hype-men.”
With his experience and energy, Coach Guidry is already making a strong impact at Shreve. Welcome to the Swamp, Coach G!
