With the Gator Games happening last weekend — Saturday the 27th — Mu Alpha Theta has blown up! Mrs. Simon has shown that math is more than just a subject, it’s something to learn and enjoy.

“Our big event of the year is the Gator Games math competition we host for middle schools,” said Mrs. Simon. “Our goal is for students to come onto our campus and have a positive experience with mathematics.”

This also serves as a chance to teach Gators the importance of leadership.

It’s never too early for kids to enjoy math, and Mu Alpha Theta made that its goal. As members of the club, Gators are held to teaching with integrity and nothing less. This serves as a learning opportunity for both the members and the attendees; it shows the members many teaching skills, and for the attendees, it helps polish their techniques with the help of the members with the goal of winning.

Middle school students participate in a math activity while a Mu Alpha Theta member helps with a computer problem.

In her opinion, Mrs. Simon believes that the Gator Games was a success with minor overlooked details.

Simon continued, “There are always things that we can do to make Gator Games better, so every year when we wrap up, we do some troubleshooting about problems that came up and discuss how we could tweak the process to make it better.”

“All in all it went very well. There are always little unexpected things that come up that we have to manage, but we had a crew of 14 teachers and 45 student volunteers helping to run the event, and they did an amazing job of making everything run smoothly and making our participants feel welcome.”

It’s always good to see Gators be positively involved in people’s lives, leaving a lasting impression, and setting an example of what it’s like to be a Gator.

Many of the competitions included questions presented as Kahoot games as seen here.
