NHS President Sanai Goree

National Honor Society (NHS) is a prestigious club with chapters present at most schools in the United States. It is an organization that honors students who have outstanding scholarship, leadership, character, and community service. NHS benefits students in many ways by helping these students get into colleges and to get scholarships.

The organization’s website states, “The NHS program empowers and equips your students with the knowledge and skills to be transformative leaders in your school, community, and beyond.”

NHS Vice President Clifton Walker III

Captain Shreve students who are sophomores or older will be invited to join  NHS by having a 3.9 GPA or higher. Upon accepting their invitation, students’ names are submitted to teachers for a character evaluation as well as a survey to verify club and sports membership.

In the fall, current members elect club officers.  The Shreve chapter of NHS has recently completed this important requirement for this school year.

As President, Sanai Goree will be responsible for presiding over any mandatory meetings. She will also be in charge of the formal Induction ceremony that takes place in the spring. The president is  also responsible for representing NHS at open houses or assigning it to other members.

NHS Secretary Ella Rossi

As Vice President, Clifton Walker III is responsible for filling the role of the president if they happen to be absent. They also have a leading role in the induction of new members.

As Secretary, Ella Rossi will be responsible for keeping the minutes of the meetings, as well as maintaining membership records.  She is also responsible for submitting a current membership report to the club’s national headquarters.

NHS Treasurer Tia Taylor

As Treasurer, Tia Taylor will be responsible for keeping an accurate account of the club’s funds, mainly from the collection of membership dues and sales of the graduation stoles.

In February, Mrs. Langdon and Mr. Long will announce the new invitations for membership. Each year about one hundred new members become a part of this prestigious club.  For students that receive an invitation, the possibility of becoming a member of this prestigious club should be a great honor.
