A garbage can full of student’s hoodies and jackets that were confiscated from April.

By Addison Montoya

In September 2023, the Captain Shreve administrators decided to only allow hoodies from November 1st through April 1st, but that is no April Fool’s joke. Unfortunately, many students wear hoodies even when they are not supposed to.

Some students feel the rule is stupid because not all teachers care if students have hoodies on. A lot of students think hoodies should be allowed because of such cold mornings and freezing classrooms during the day.

Not only can students not wear hoodies but they can’t have a jacket with a hood on it because people have been sleeping with the hood on in class or walking in the halls with their hood on. Rain jackets with hoods and jackets with hoods are not to be worn even when it is cold or raining because of this policy.

On the first day of April students were not reminded of this rule when they returned from the weekend. Many students had been wearing hoodies and jackets with hoods because of how cold it was. When students walked into the school they are told to take off their hoodie or jacket with a hood because of the rule.

Many students think this rule should be eliminated because it limits them to just  a few things they can wear and be comfortable. The main reason why the administrators got rid of hoodies is because of how often they were worn inside the classrooms to hide Airpods and headphones during class instruction time.

Advisor’s note: The policy in question was put in place by the school district. It was not a decision made by Shreve’s administration.

No Hoodies? Big Problem!
