Z club is an all-girls organization dedicated to service on a school, local, and international level. Throughout the year, the Z club hosts various events such as Cook-off and The Gators for Good Carnival. This year Z club hosted their first ever club picnic.
At their first general meeting, the picnic was announced. The picnic was created as a bonding event. Z club co-sponsor Devin Rachels said, “Being that it’s the beginning of a new school year and we have so many members, it’s important for us to get to know each other.”
In Z club, ladies split off into their designated groups called “cookie groups.” Cookie Groups are small groups of 8 or so girls tasked with bringing cookies for teachers on a specific date. At the meeting girls were instructed to bring food for their cookie groups or donate money towards one big meal.
On August 26, blankets were laid out and food was passed under the comforting shade. The picnic began at approximately 11:00 am and ended at 1:00 pm. The girls convened outside of Magnet Hall under the oak trees. Smiles were seen all around as the ladies ate. The sponsors of Z club even provided water just in case anyone ran out. While eating, co-presidents Ella Rossi and Bella Hamilton asked the girls to come up with fundraising ideas for their cookie groups. The cookie group who raises the most money will win a prize. All proceeds are to go to a local food drive called “The Hub.”

After they finished eating, the young women began working diligently to clean up the school grounds. They were separated by grade and given an area to clean. Even in the heat everyone pitched in. They were able to get finished by 12:30.
Once back under the cool breeze of the oak trees, the ladies were able to rest for a minute. Z club member, Katelyn Scroggins thoroughly enjoyed the picnic stating, “I was able to talk to people I have never talked to before. Everyone was so welcoming and nice. I loved it.” Many others agreed with Scroggins, stating that they also enjoyed the picnic.
Overall, the picnic was a success. The ladies ended the picnic with a group picture and everyone left happier than they came.
