Club fair at Captain Shreve provides the opportunity for all students to see and learn about the many different clubs and sporting clubs The Swamp has to offer. There are 45 clubs that enhance community service, education and social experiences for the student body and an additional 15 sports-related clubs. Every club actively participates in school spirit and events throughout the academic year, such as Homecoming, and the Gators for Good carnival, just to name a few. Students are encouraged to get involved in as many different clubs and sports to spread the Gator Spirit!
The Student Council plans and hosts many big events on and off campus, including the homecoming dance and Camp Gator, as well as representing Captain Shreve at the Louisiana Association of Student Councils (LASC) across the State of Louisiana. When Mrs. Jenkins was asked about Student Council’s role at the swamp, she replied, “leadership development is one of the core principles in the Mission of Captain Shreve High School.” Developing and providing leadership opportunities to develop leadership skills in our students is essential and worth the time and effort to evolve these traits.

An additional leadership opportunity is to attend LASC. This is a workshop attended by many Student Councils across the State to learn and work with each other and bring back fresh new ideas to the Shreve campus for student enjoyment.
Besides leadership, the most important part of Student Council is in the name, “Student” Council. The Student Council represents the entire student body at The Swamp, including proposing new ideas for projects to better the campus environment, and making each new school year better than the one before.
Another influential club at The Swamp is Z Club. This club is considered a sorority for young women who are full of love, sisterhood, and school spirit. One of their goals is to provide the atmosphere to work together and provide community service. Z Club is one of the largest clubs in The Swamp and hosts the biggest fundraiser on campus, the Gators for Good carnival, a fundraiser for a needy member of the Shreve Family.
According to Mrs. Loridans, Z Club’s mission is to provide community service at three levels; school, community, and internationally. The Z Club starts fundraising early in the school year as they host the Taste of Shreve the first week of December. The Taste of Shreve is a community event consisting of locals cooking gumbo, chili. and desserts. Tickets are sold for event, which allows each attendee to enjoy the delicious foods and participate in the rest of the event’s activities.

The annual Club Fair is a fun and exciting to learn about the many different offerings in The Swamp. If you did not attend this year, you can always contact a member of a club you would like to join to learn how to become a member.
