Several students wrongly walk through the halls bumping into each other, going the wrong way, and not using proper hallway traffic etiquette.

Captain Shreve holds up to around 2,000 students for the 2023- 2024 school year, but that many kids only means that traffic might be an annoyance. With the layout of Shreve with the total number of students, getting to your classes on time, navigating through the halls, and trying to tackle the mountain of stairs can seem difficult.

Magnet Hall, Annex, Business Center, and JROTC Hall are all buildings that are a part of Shreve, but they are not connected to the main building. Early on, especially as a new student, you might have to develop a good route to make it to your classes on time before the tardy bell has rung.

Going into the school year students are always eager to see their schedules. Mainly they want to see their subjects, teachers, and other students they share classes with, but students also check for the arrangement of those classes as well. For example, having a class in the very back of Magnet Hall, then having one next period on the third floor of the main building leaves you no time to be walking at a slow pace. With this in mind, you always have to be considerate of other students around you.

“I would stop behind them so I don’t bump into them, and they don’t bump into me,” Maddison Reynolds, an 11th grade student, said.

Stair clusters, sudden U – turners, shoulder to shoulder groups, slow walkers, and annoying in-the-way PDA couples are some of the well known annoyances that make walking in the halls more difficult than what it should be.

When in the halls you should always make sure that you are walking with a purpose to make it to your class on time, and to keep traffic at a steady pace.
