After a long season of being in the water, our swim team were qualified to go to the LHSAA State Championship Meet. Lilian Eppers and Jennie Tichenor were two of the swimmers who competed.
At state, Eppers swam a 1.0.61 in prelims in order to go to the second alternate in finals and Tichenor made the D1 finals for the 200-freestyle and finished 11th in state with the time of 2:02.
Since an early age the swimmers have had a passion for the water.
”I fell in love with the competition at an early age. Within my family, all my sisters have swam before so you can say my family is the reason of my love of swimming,” Tichenor stated.
”It is such a unique sport, being as you practice as a team but you compete on your own, relying on only your strength while still having your teammates to cheer you on,” Eppers added.
Eppers feels the challenge keeps getting tougher when competing for state.
”Every year the state cuts get faster and harder to achieve. One of the most challenging things as a swimmer is getting stuck on a time, meaning you are going 28’s on your 50 free and just can’t seem to go faster for a period of time.”
Our swimmers have had an outstanding season from fighting through all difficulties and challenges to do what they desire and they are passionate about. Our Gators are champions!
