There was a lively feeling of energy, creativity, and school spirit at Captain Shreve High School during Student Council Week, when students celebrated their school and their National Gold Council of Excellence together in one week.
There were days when students could dress like their twin or wear their best 2016 fit to show their spirit. Excitement filled the halls of the school each day as a different theme for spirit week was announced. Classrooms looked like small runways as both teachers and students dressed up for the day’s theme, being emo or preppy.
The goal of the Student Council Week was not just to have students dress up each day. Each activity was designed to create a stronger sense of community in school. During lunch, students were able to write Teacher Appreciation Notes, enjoy Cotton Candy and Kona Ice, and even participate in a Scavenger Hunt.
“As a purpose of the week, we were trying to get everybody together,” said Kyndell Collins, a member of Student Council. “We wanted to make everybody feel welcome and happy about being at school.”
Teachers were involved all week in supporting the Student Council’s activities and participating in the spirit week themes with the goal of creating a connection between students and adults within the school community.
The impact of Student Council Week became clearly evident by the end of the week because there were high participation turnouts and everyone had seen plenty of school spirit displayed through the halls, and many students left the week with memories that would last a lifetime.
Student Council Week was not only about the different themes for each day; it was a way to remind everyone why our school is special: because of the people who are part of it, the energy we put into it, and the way we can all come together as one to celebrate who we are.
